Zahn Typical Nursing Floors

• The design team was presented with the age-old problem: create a significant aesthetic transformation on a limited budget. The existing nursing floors were dimly lit and had cold and institutional finishes such as terrazzo.
• Health care carpet was chosen to solve two problems. It instantly warmed-up the space and did not require sub-floor preparation, saving significant dollars.
• The budget did not allow for new suspended ceilings. The solution was to paint the existing ceilings and surface mounted appurtenances a darker color. In combination with the installation of pendant and sconce lighting, a person’s eyes are drawn downward, in effect visually minimizing the ceilings above and brightening the walls.
