HeartShare Day Habilitation Center
Brooklyn, New York
- Part of the gut renovation and conversion of a multi-story downtown Brooklyn warehouse/industrial building, this project gave HeartShare Human Services a new 15,000 square foot Day Habilitation Center to serve its special needs clients.
- Our design took advantage of the building’s circular columns, high stories and corner location to create spaces with ample natural light and a colonnade effect.
- The floor plan was organized into three basic zones. "On the corner" is situated the Day Hab’s large multi-function room featuring a tri-part tray ceiling with pendent chandelier style lighting. At the opposite end of the floor are two large classroom type spaces which support HeartShare's Adult Autism program. Special program areas include a computer training room and library.
- In between the Day Hab & Autism programs are shared support areas such as a library, meeting rooms, exam areas, offices and a "program kitchen".
